Lord Byron
(1788-1824)

Plagued by a clubfoot as a child, Byron suffered neglect from his mother and hatred towards himself. Though he had many friends at his boarding school, he was always deeply aware of his shortcomings. It is, perhaps, this suffering which caused him to begin writing melancholy poetry. As an adult he was know for his passionate affairs, debt and failed marriage. On a journey to Italy, he fell in love with a very young Italian girl. He would spend the rest of his life with her. Having a great passion for the Greek Impedance causes, he went to Greece to join in the fight. He died there as a result of a serious fever. Today, he is one of England's (and the world's) most beloved poets.
