BOSHETUNMAY "Signal" Reviews
Only a year passed since the release of the debut EP of Russian
Dercho brothers, living in Germany since 1993, and it's time for the new CD to
appear. This time it's a full-length (11 tracks, 47 minutes) album which the
brothers - just like the first one - recorded and released themselves. It is
clear that self-production has its pros and contras, but the brothers did it
absolutely on purpose, wanting to not depend on the sound-releasing and
promotion policies of a label, and took all the responsibility of the
promotion and the release. Well, so much for the technical details; time to
take a look at the music itself.
Many of you still do not know the debut EP Boshetunmay, which
they sent us last year, so I'd better clear the things out with the style of
the music they play. Here's how they identify it themselves: Electro-Rock with Gothic, Wave, Dance and Metal influences
and the most exciting thing is that this description fits perfectly the music
which is recorded on the CD. This is really a fairly active and
"drive" rock, with a lot of different electronics and a drum-machine
instead of the drummer. Nevertheless, on this CD, in contrast to the previous
one, the musicians made a move into the electro-realm, leaving the guitars in
many songs on the so-called backing positions, and emphasizing different
electronics and effects. These changes made the music even more danceable and
exciting, but keeping its rock elements and air, which sounds really nice. To
cut the long story short, the music of the CD is wholesome in its style and
unique sound, most songs are fairly fast and energizing, although there is a
couple of slower, lyrical tracks. The vocals - just like on the debut CD - are
male, belonging to Harry Dercho (he is also the author of the lyrics, while
Vitaly Dercho composes the music and handles the instruments) and are
evidently applied to a lot of special effects. The lyrics are in English,
except for the final song "Personifiziertes Silikon", which is in German.
In short, this work is professional and very good, it's wholesome
in its style and well produced. Apart from that, the music of the band is
evidently oriented on wide circles of listeners, not only the representatives
of dark scene, for it is light enough, fairly vivid and "merry". As
it often happens with self-released CDs, this album is only sold in large
stores in Germany and at our distribution. And finally. I'd like to wish the
Dercho brothers luck in their brave progress to the wide circles of listeners
and also wish them not to be afraid of hardships in their further creative
work, for this band has a very stable creative potential which I personally
would love to see released.
