Nothing was known about DVAR after the release of their sensational single "Taai Liira", that's why the news which came in the mailing list of the Italian label Radio Luxor / E.N.D.E. was like a bolt from the blue: the next album by DVAR is going to be released in Italy limited edition. In fact, Radio Luxor / E.N.D.E. (a label famous as the "home" of KIRLIAN CAMERA) suits such kind of music perfectly, this can be clearly seen by the newcomers the label takes under its wing: for instance, a darkwave band CHANTS OF MALDOROR. Having received the new album by DVAR, we found out that the album was published at the Radio Luxor / E.N.D.E. sublabel, which is called S.P.K.R. and has been launched for "strange" music, although its very first release was just a common act NAEVUS. Despite the nice fact that DVAR is still alive and kicking, the album was sooner a disillusion to me. Let us start with the cover: it seems to me that both the band and the label overdid it with minimalism. Of course, there are much les abundant issues, but still, the booklet only contains images already used in the single "Taai Liira". On we go to the main disillusion - the album contains 11 songs, all of them sung in a mysterious language, titled philosophically and charismatically like "Vo Rah Arrah Iill" or "Ariil Iaat", and also contains three tracks included at the single "Taai Liira" and available for download at the DVAR fan-site, "Iina Tamiira", "Taai Liira" and "Hissen Raii", and I'm sorry to announce that these are the best tracks of the album. I got the feeling that the rest of the album was written to support these three tracks - they stand out for their being hits and also stylistically. Maybe the rest of the songs aren't very bad but compared with the three monsters they look like background. Of course it's a disappointment, despite the quality and the uniqueness of the material, the CD hasn't justified my hopes. Although it happens like that all the time when you expect too much. Those who haven't heard the single "Taai Liira" may like the new material by DVAR. Highly recommended to lovers of sick darkwave like RELATIVES MENSCHSEIN and ONEROID PSYCHOSIS, and also to advanced fans of SOPOR AETERNUS и DAS ICH.

DVAR is back! Even after some have forgotten about it, and some have "buried" the band during the time which passed since they released their famous single "Taai Liira" - believing that, having sparkled brightly on the gothic sky, DVAR had successfully completed its mission.

It so happened, that while the underground world came to know about this occult-mystic band, all the goths split into two groups: some (the majority) worshipped the new act, made it their idols, searched for any information about it and spent great sums of money on DVAR's early demo-cassettes. The other group of people tried their best to let down the band, created dirty rumors and spread them all around. But life eventually set everything right. And here is the new CD by DVAR, straight from Italy, where people can tell good music from bad and know how to make money on it! After all, Russian bands don't often release their albums at foreign labels. If I'm not mistaken, there were nine such bands in Russia, before DVAR: SPECIES OF FISHES, CYCLOTIMIA, CAPRICE, RADA & TERNOVNIK, LC (LUCISFERRATO), SAL SOLARIS, REUTOFF, BARDOSENETICCUBE, DJ RAM. In the struggle of different labels, the one who won was the young Italian label S.P.K.R., which quickly released 512 copies of the band's works dated 1999-2000. Really, the management of the large record company Radio Luxor (whose department S.P.K.R. actually is) did the right thing when it turned to the East in search of new talented bands. Considering the present situation of depression in the field of darkwave, when DAS ICH cannot create anything new for four years, when Anna-Varney from SOPOR AETERNUS is more obsessed with her looks, photo-sessions and releasing limited editions of her albums at Radio Luxor, when RELATIVES MENSCHSEIN have understood the deadness of the situation and decided to end their creative work in order not to stain their good name - DVAR's new album "Piirrah" looks life a ray of light in a kingdom of darkness! This is like a wonderful return to the good old 90s, when each of us delightfully discovered such amazing works as "Die Propheten", "…Ich tote mich…", "1.Kapitel", "Gefallene engel"... "Piirrah" is forty minutes of a most crazy and sophisticated occult darkwave which has absorbed all the best ever created during the genre's history. 11 tracks are 11 hits, composed and performed by the most sick and perverted junkies (in the good meaning of the word), making their music for the likes of them! the three super-hits from the album needn't be named - everybody knows them by heart thanks to the single "Taai Liira". The song "Schraii" with mediaeval-folk intonations (my favorite, by the way) was taken from the previous cassette album. The eleventh track "Ariil Iaat" is, at closer look, "Taai Liira" written backwards. The styles of the songs are sometimes different: for example, we have the apocalyptic symphony "Al Hilaji", and the carrying-out of some monstrous ritual in "Vo Rah Arrah Iil", and the evil energy of chaos in "Abisser", and the purposeful likeness with DAS ICH's "Staub" in "Itiir"... And I have never heard a laughter more demonic than the one of the vocalist in the track "Vaii Han", which makes me doubt his being human...

In the end I can say that I was very much pleased with DVAR's new work, and also with being one of the 512 CD-owners, and also with the fact that I have financially supported the local dark scene which had never before given birth to such outstanding releases.
