Canonis is a group from Naberezhnie Chelni which started its gothic career as a doom metal band. In 1994 they recorded their first demo "Virtual Reality", which is sustained in doom metal direction, but differs from the majority of Russian metal bands in excellent melodies and skilful using of female vocals. Next year they recorded their second 3-track demo "Princess of rain" moving away from doom metal borders. In 1997 Canonis recorded new 2-song demo held in ethereal style. Unfortunately they have been showing no activity since 1997, but the band still exists. They recorded an exclusive track "Snow River" for Russian Gothic Compilation.

Canonis "The Aquarell" - 1997
Wow!!! I almost cried, while listening this marvelous music of renewed Canonis. The break in creative activity did these guys good. Supermelodic and sad atmosphere of two compositions of this demo penetrates the depths of a soul from the opening divine sounds! Cello, violins, keyboards and tender, clear and remarkably beautiful voice of Yulia... Exalted and extraordinary folk/doom metal (???-RGP). Bosses of record labels, where are you? You'll miss your lucky chance, if you don't sign this band!
Canonis "The Aquarell" - 1997
Gothic group from Naberezhnie Chelni which started its musical career as gothic-doom. New demo, unfortunately a 2-song one, makes great impression - it's a qualitative etherial material in the spirit of best hyperium/projekt bands. One can compare them to Love Spirals Downwards and Stoa - beautiful , sad female vocals, not less beautiful female backing vocals, romantic live music - violin, cello, but the drum machine sound is a bit monotonous, though the drums of majority of hyperium bands have the same kind of sound. Six musicians took part in the recording of this demo - two young men and four girls (one of which is a regular project member and other three are session musicians). All the above mentioned facts make us believe that Canonis are the future stars of Russian gothic-scene, taking in account the professional and serious approach to music making. I'm waiting for their full-length album with impatience.
